The recently unveiled Kawasaki ZX-10R SE is a welcome addition to the ZX-10R family - the Japanese’s manufacturer flagship sport bikes
An SE iteration of the previously released Kawasaki ZX-10R has been officially revealed at the EICMA motorcycle show. One cool, new feature on the 998cc motorcycle is definitely the Kawasaki Electronic Control Suspension (KECS). In fact, it is the very first motorcycle from Kawasaki with electronic suspension.
Developed in partnership with Showa, a manufacturer of suspension parts and products, the KECS utilizes solenoids to change the damping settings, rather than stepper motors. Built-in stroke sensors on the front forks and rear monoshock track suspension movement every millisecond (ms). The bike’s Engine Control Unit (ECU) then combines the data with the Bosch Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) every 10 milliseconds. Subsequently, a computer adjusts the damping settings according to the conditions of the road.
Various notable upgrades from the ZX-10R include a clutchless, bi-directional quick shifter, designed predominately for racing, as well as 7-spoked forged Marchesini aluminium wheels. In fact, both are adapted from Kawasaki’s homologation-spec bike, the Ninja ZX-10RR.
