Both motorcycles are powered by a 648cc, air-cooled, parallel twin engine which is claimed to pump out 47bhp at 7100rpm and 52Nm of torque at 4000rpm. It is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, with a ‘slip/assist’ clutch feature eases riding in traffic and prevents wheel hop when changing to a lower gear. The engine also has an oil cooler for increased performance. Siddharth Lal, Royal Enfield’s CEO and Managing Director, had mentioned that both motorcycles will be very accessible to the masses with regard to pricing and maintenance.

The Interceptor 650 is built to manage different terrains well, yet retaining the classic design of the bike – a fan favourite. The inspiration for the bike was derived from motorcycles basking under the sun-kissed beaches in California, reminiscent of the 1960s. Features such as a classic narrow “teardrop” tank and quilted twin seat are sure to spark your nostalgia.

For a sportier model, the Continental GT 650 is your friend. It looks almost similar to the previously released Continental GT 535, retaining a similar fuel tank, headlamp, and other components. A notable difference will be the new dual side exhaust muffler at the back of the motorcycle.

Both bikes come in a steel tubular frame, along with a 41mm front fork and dual coil-over shocks for the rear. Braking power is provided by a 320mm and 240mm brake disc on the front and rear respectively, with Anti -Brake System (ABS). They also come with premium Pirelli tyres.

With the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650, Royal Enfield is seeking to further cement and boost their position in the middleweight segment all around the world, as well as catering to their 2.5million customers in India.

The bikes come in two styles – retro custom and standard, along with a plethora of colours to suit every rider’s preference. Machine price of the bikes will be in the range of S$6250- S$7300 (after conversion). They will be available in the second quarter of 2018. Availability in Singapore is unknown.
