As motorcyclists, we all know the importance of safety on the roads – and wearing a helmet is mandatory. Not only does it sharply reduce the risk of head injuries, it protects the biker from the weather as well. Sharing with you one of the smart helmets currently in the market right now – the Reevu MSX-1. What is so unique about this helmet? The Reevu MSX-1 is the first helmet equipped with a rear view mirror system! Intrigued? Read on to find out more about this one of a kind helmet!

Way back in the year 2005, the first iteration of the Reevu MSX-1 helmet was released to the market. One piece of feedback that Reevu received was that the front portion of the rear mirror system was non-adjustable. 5 years later, in 2010, a new and improved version of the Reevu MSX-1 was released. This version of the helmet was well received by the public – features include internal paddings to reduce sound, an easy to remove face shield, and of course, an adjustable rear mirror system.

The revolutionary part of this helmet is, undoubtedly, the rear mirror system. The optic part of the mirror, as mentioned before, is fully adjustable and there is a screw available to adjust it to your desired height. This mirror works similarly to the rear-view mirror of a car, but the rider has to look upwards as the mirror is not parallel to your eye level. This system also has mirrors placed in an oblique position. The back of the helmet is a “one-way” lens - you are able to see through it via the mirror only. It also aids your riding at night as you won’t be susceptible to the glaring effects of headlights.

Below is an illustration, taken from webbikeworld, portraying your line of vision when you don this helmet on:

The above illustration shows that, for a biker with a normal helmet looking at the rear mirrors of a motorcycle, he is only able to see the “!” spots. On the other hand, a biker wearing the Reevu MSX-1 helmet will have nearly unobstructed peripheral vision.

The Reevu MSX-1 helmet is also manufactured with the rider’s comfort in mind. The interior of the helmet is slightly round, coupled with liners and ear paddings which can be taken out for washing. Paddings along the ear pockets and vents in the helmet helps to reduce the sound levels.

Worried about stray particles and debris obstructing the rear view mirror? Fret not. Two exhaust ports are installed on the sides of the mirrored polycarbonate at the back of the helmet. The helmet also comes equipped with two vents, one on the chin and one on the forehead. Both can be easily opened or closed. Thus, even in humid weather, air ventilation is still well maintained. The helmet also comes with an easily detachable, anti-fog face shield.

The Reevu MSX-1 helmet also comes in different sizes, from XS to XXL. For example, the size XL helmet weighs approximately 1.8kg. Admittedly, the weight of this helmet is slightly on the higher end. This is mainly due to the rear view mirror system. The exterior of the helmet is made of tri composite Kevlar and fibreglass fibre shell.

In a nutshell, the Reevu MSX-1 helmet safety features, sleek design and revolutionary rear view mirror system makes it a top pick among bikers.
