Announced at the Gitex Technology Week (GITEX) conference in Dubai World Trade Centre, the vehicle, named the Scorpion, is designed by Russian company Hoversurf. It was designed with the main purpose of eschewing congested traffic, especially in emergencies, the Gulf News reported. According to Hoversurf chief executive Alexander Atamanov’s Facebook page, Hoversurf has signed a memorandum of understanding with Dubai police to mass produce the Scorpion in Dubai.

What better way to nab a criminal, then to ride at speeds above jam packed cars of up to 70km/h? We can dig it. According to First Sergeant Ali Ahmad Mohammad from the VIP Security Department, the flying motorbike is electrically-powered, able to fly at a height of 5 metres, and support a maximum weight of up to 300kg. It can even fly unmanned for 6 kilometres!

Other cutting-edge vehicles revealed are a smart motorbike with eight cameras installed to catch errant drivers, as well as a driverless vehicle equipped with biometric software to recognise faces! Brigadier Khalid Nasser Al Razooqi, director of Smart Services Department at Dubai Police, mentioned that the latter will be deployed at Dubai’s tourist attractions and is able to identify suspicious characters.
