The police hold a 28- year old young man in custody. What are the Charges? He is suspected of stealing three motorbikes from different locations.

He will be charged on Friday (May 7). Police have reported that the bikes were stolen from the estates in Woodlands, Canberra and Redhill on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Well, the owners of the bikes were lucky as all the stolen bikes got recovered. Police arrested the criminal on Wednesday. The culprit got identified by using ground inquiries and the images from security cameras in the area. He will be now charged with motorcycle theft and faces a prison time of seven years along with a fine.

Now the question arises, how could he pick up three bikes in mere two days and in three different estates? If the police were not paying attention, he would have succeeded in getting away with the crime.

Due to the police's diligence, the culprit was readily caught and put to charge. But authorities are not only responsible for securing your possessions. It is said that charity starts at home.   1. Never park your bike in the dark. Always opt for well-lit areas for parking your bike.
  2. Install an excellent anti-theft alarm in your bike
  3. Think of adding more locks to your bike. Add additional locking devices such as disc brake locks.
  4. You can also install a suspension guard.
  5. If left unattended, do not leave the key with the bike. Always remember to lock the bike.
  6. Secure your bike by covering the motorbike with a canvas. Pay attention to both ends and secure them properly and last,
  7.  Where do you keep your spare keys? Keep the keys with you or at a secure place like your home or office. Never leave them inside the motorcycle box.

Motorcycle theft is a crime now frequent in Singapore for the last two years. No doubt, police are doing their job to keep law and order, and they are completing their job in the best manner.

However, in the first place, it's the duty of the owner to keep his prized possessions safe by taking necessary measures. How long will it take to lock the bike? Roughly a minute, but it can save you from a lot of trouble.
